The Seychelles fisheries industry contribute to SCR 62.1 million (1.2%) of the GDP. Take note that despite fisheries industry being a big industry in Seychelles, Its direct GDP contribution is very meagre. Most of the contributions are captured under the manufacturing Industry e.g. from the Indian Ocean Tuna factory.
The Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone is permanently rich in tunas with an area of 1.4 million km². It yields over 25% of the total tuna catch in the western Indian Ocean. Port Victoria is the largest tuna transhipment in the world transacting 80% of the catch of purse seiners in the region.
