In common with government policy on tourism, the development of the fisheries sector will be directed to achieving the maximum potential benefit for the national economy and people of Seychelles, while being mindful of the finite nature of injudiciously exploited marine resources, leading to sustainable resource use. To this end the industry will be encouraged to focus upon high value-added products. The fisheries policy sets out the main principle to achieve the long term goal. Concessions to promote this development are provided through the Agriculture and Fisheries incentives Act which aim to encourage greater domestic participation in fisheries related activities at the same time as channeling further foreign direct investment into the industry. The Act makes provision for concessions to business tax, Social Security contributions, Gainful Occupational Permits (GOP) (required for employing foreign personnel), Trades Tax and GST.
