Limited natural resources and labour supply has curtailed the development of a significant manufacturing base in Seychelles, but certain segments have exploited reliable niche markets both in Seychelles and internationally.
The Seychelles Industrial sector is one of the sectors that present so many challenges to our local entrepreneurs. Its existence is still quite recent but there have been considerable progress made, given that a few decades ago this sector was non existent.
Today Seychelles offers wide ranging opportunities for innovative light industrial projects at the Providence Industrial estate, the focal point for the nation’s manufacturing sector as well as under the Seychelles International Trade Zone (SITZ). Companies such as Chelle Medical operating under the SITZ, which exports medical equipment from its factory in Seychelles to western Europe, have benefited from Seychelles’ educated work force and pro-business government policies.
And while the investment authorities are ready to give consideration to any suggested industrial development, a number of fields present themselves as particularly suited to Seychelles, notably in recycling (waste management) and energy related projects (such as assembly of solar water heaters).
